We have been fortunate to receive many donations of food, water, and clothing for the survivors of Hurricane Matthew, which killed more than 900 people in Haiti. We are now preparing to ship and distribute these items to the worst-affected areas.
To do this, we need funds for shipping. It costs us about $60 per barrel just to get to Haiti; then we must travel overland through areas that are flooded and without roads to reach those in need. We can accomplish this as long as we can pay for transport; our volunteers go with the shipments and make sure everything reaches the people who need it most. In the months ahead, the devastation of Hurricane Matthew will become worse as cholera takes hold. We are dealing with this crisis one day at a day.
