Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday and certainly we have so much be greater. But in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, there are many days dedicated to gratitude. People here spend these holidays with family and friends, thinking of their blessings, no matter how small. The children of House of Hope
House of Hope orphans return as young adults to help those left behind, such as Junior who spent five years with us.
We posted on Facebook about our children wading across flooded schools to get to school. The entire town faces severe flooding.
We are beating the odds. In Haiti, illiteracy is close to 90 percent but our children are going to school and graduating.
Our tiny baby Mits is thriving thanks to the care he has received from House of Hope and from the other children here.
On a recent trip to Haiti, board president Renel Noel and volunteer Andrew Hayward Smith documented House of Hope and Beraca Medical Center in photographs. Beraca Medical Center has no running water or indoor plumbing. Patients and doctors must walk 300 feet outside the hospital to use outhouses without hand washing facilities or toilet paper.
